OH MY GOODNESS!!  It is finally here guys, can you believe it?  It’s Week Six of the One Room Challenge – hands up if you know what that means!!

YES! It’s reveal week! Where you get to see the full-on, uncensored awesomeness of the room transformation! And honestly, who doesn’t love a good Cinderella story?! It’s the stuff of Hollywood legend.

To be honest, there were times during this reno when I didn’t know if this day would come. Countless long nights (and days), and many movies for my five year old while we endeavoured to get this project done on time. Mom guilt is real and in full effect!

My husband and I were trying to keep within our budget, so to get the finishes we wanted we had to do this reno ourselves.  Oh the sacrifices we make for love and design! If you’re getting caught up and want to binge this entire project, catch the previous weeks updates here: Week One, Week Two, Week Three, Week Four and Week Five.

This “refresh” was really more of a full-blown renovation project, and I should have titled it as such in hindsight.  The existing laundry room in our 1882 Victorian home was less than impressive, in fact it was downright neglected!  But now I actually look forward to doing laundry.  Who says that?!  But that is how much I LLLLOVE our new laundry room.

Let’s take a minute to reflect on just how far this room has come:

Victorian Charm

Our main goal was to restore our laundry room to not only a respectable state, but also honour its history and bring back some of the Victorian charm – with modern amenities of course.  We had to remove oh so many layers of paint on the stairs and it was an awful job (week 4 for those details) but I definitely would do it all again based on the final outcome! And that is saying a lot! We maintained our 12” baseboards, detailed moldings in the trim, and added an era-appropriate door that we DIY’d into a barn door entryway.  The lighting and hardware add a few glam details to stay true to our vision.

The Layout

We had some very awkward storage under our stairs that wreaked havoc when I was initially designing the floor plan.  So we got creative and opted to fill in the cubbies under the stairs and add a storage cabinet to the other side of the room. However, to utilize this square footage we had to incorporate a barn door on the other side of the entry way to accommodate the additional furniture. We kept half of the storage under the stairs by creating these built in shelves.

Laundry Room Before After 2

Our laundry room has turned out better than I ever could have hoped for.  I’m incredibly proud of my husband and I for tackling this project together. While I didn’t love every part of the process, I have a newfound level of appreciation for my husband’s quick wit and patience with me. We have a mountain of laundry to get to, but all I can say is BRING. IT. ON.
