Easy DIY Wall Mounted Easel

Boys Bedroom 2019

My five year old loves everything art related, from painting and drawing to sculpting with Play-Doh.  He’s also a huge fan of crafting, and I have to admit – I love that he got bit by the DIY bug.  I will keep the celebration short, as he could grow out of it, but for now I’m going to nurture his artistic inclinations for as long as possible.  So when I came across this easy project for a wall-mounted easel from Arin Solange at home, I got super excited, like fist-pump excited! I knew immediately that my son would love it, and I needed to include it in his room update (you can catch the full room reveal here).

Arts and crafts, tucked away

We mounted it pretty much exactly as indicated in Arin’s tutorial with the exception of the paper; we decided to keep it simple and use IKEA’s “mala” paper.  I’m a big fan of keeping it simple!  The benefit of having his art easel wall-mounted is that it saves a ton of space and looks much better than the stand alone units.  Who doesn’t like to save some space and have it look good?  Ummm, everyone, that’s who!

The walls will be fine (I think)

For those that are thinking “oh my gosh, her kid is gonna colour all over her walls!”, I hear ya, but we use washable markers. The washable markers come right off when he gets a little excited and colours outside the lines.  Also, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work, well, like magic in removing Crayon, scuffs and marks off furniture and walls.  This setup could also be installed in a kitchen or mudroom as a family communication board, or even in a home office to keep your to-do list handy.

It honestly took us about ten minutes to install and you can source everything at IKEA with the exception of the piece of wood to keep the paper held against the wall. We just used a piece of lumber we had on hand (from our DIY porch swing project).  This could be an afternoon project.  What do you think?  Are you going to give it a whirl?  Remember #pursuitofhomeblog or drop me a line and a pic in the comment section below so I can check it out!
